Project Craton

Craton is an RV32 microcontroller for real-time and RTOS workloads: a system on chip (SoC) with a fork of the OpenHW Foundation CORE-V CV32E40X at its heart. The design targets FPGA(s) for validation only and then silicon as the end goal.

This book will be organized by subject and follow the repository’s eventual layout closely.

  • Getting started takes you from a clone to something running.
  • Each hardware block is documented as needed: what it is, how it works, the ports and parameters it presents to an integrator, and the registers software drives it with.
  • Verification covers the plan and the environments that carry it out.
  • Physical design covers the flow and constraints.
  • The project section covers how things work and why Craton is designed the way it is.

The sections will get filled as the design progresses. We keep it so that nothing here describes something that does not yet exist.
